Fox Holds Off Challenge To Claim Bmw Pga Championship Lead

Fox, ranked 56th in the world, carded a seven-under-par 65 at Wentworth Club in Surrey, England, to lead by one stroke from a group of four players.

Those tied for second include England's Matt Fitzpatrick, who won the event in 2020, and world number one Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland.

Fox, who has won three times on the European Tour, made a flying start with three birdies in his first five holes.

He dropped a shot at the sixth but bounced back with another birdie at the seventh and then eagled the par-five eighth to move to six under.

Fox picked up another shot at the 11th and, despite bogeying the 14th, he held on to his lead with a birdie at the 16th.
